Meet Carmen Lopez, Performing arts distributor and organizer/producer of the La Herradura Blues Festival.
Her passion becomes obvious when Carmen starts talking. Today she is accompanied by Olga Ruano, the Alderman of Culture, who lives and breathes culture, as they are going to tell me about the La Herradura Blues Festival.
Carmen explains that she was born and raised in Almuñécar. Her love for performing arts and music has led her to become a theatre, art and music promoter and most people in the scene on the Costa Tropical know her. It is hard to not be affected by her warm smile and enthusiasm when she talks about the upcoming Blues Festival in La Herradura.
Carmen loves all types of music, but she particularly likes Blues. Four years ago she came up with the idea to hold a blues festival. Initially she thought organizing the festival in Almuñécar but it being a town rich in music events and music festivals, such as the well-known Jazz festival, Olga Ruano suggested to hold the Blues Festival in La Herradura.
And they have found the perfect setting for it. The La Herradura castle. Not only does this historic building offer perfect acoustics, it also is a magic place to be, thanks to its spaces that breathe history, which distinguishes this festival from other festivals. What better place to enjoy an evening of Blues. Or better still … get yourself a 4-day ticket for a discounted price of 35€. Price for one night is 10€.
2016 is the third year this fantastic festival is taking place in the La Herradura Castle. This fortress is located very close to the coast in the village of La Herradura and is a military defensive structure dating back to the second half of the 18th century. It was constructed because of the ongoing attacks of piracy in the coastal area of the provinces of Malaga, Granada and Almería. This year’s artists come both from Spain and abroad. Many blues lovers are expected to find their way to La Herradura. Carmen likes to mention El Nuevo Camping de La Herradura, who is one of the sponsors of the festival and who reserve some space for festival visitors each year.
Carmen is very proud of the list of excellent musicians who are going to perform during this year’s festival. “Blues never dies” she says and the opening act on the first day of the festival is testimony to this. One of the musicians of Chema’s Blues Band, a band from this region, is only 17 years old but clearly has a unique talent and passion for Blues music.
Below you can find the list of bands performing during the festival with links to a performance on YouTube.
