What’s in a name you might wonder, but Dolce Vita is exactly that. ‘The new kid on the block’ La Dolce Vita Gastrobar Pizzería, opened its doors to the public in November, but has already found its way into the hearts of those who have entered. La Dolce vita, literally translated ‘the sweet life’ is a very apt name, because whether you come for a few drinks with some excellent tapas or for a meal, life becomes a whole lot ‘sweeter’.Greeted by enthusiastic and friendly staff, treated to a sea view, weather permitting, or to the welcoming atmosphere indoors, you will be able to enjoy a ‘fine-dining’ experience in the sense of a pleasant sensation for your taste butts. The dishes are presented beautifully, but not only that, the food is of excellent quality as well! Modesto and Antonio pride themselves to offer you a very special fusion of traditional Italian, Andalusian and Mediterranean cuisine, thus creating innovative and very tasty dishes, using high quality products.
So who are these guys? Well Antonio is Italian, from Calabria, and has worked as a chef for many years and Modesto is from La Herradura and has over 28 years of experience as a chef. Modesto has also travelled a lot and worked as a chef in for example Germany, Austria, France and South America. Antonio came to la Herradura from Germany, where he was working, for a two-week holiday but liked it so much, he didn’t want to leave anymore. Modesto and Antonio met over the summer when they both were working as cooks at one of the La Herradura ‘chiringitos’. They decided to open their own restaurant and took advantage of the opportunity of starting the business on the sea front (in the direction of the Punta de la Mona).
This fusion of two worlds means you can enjoy freshly made Italian pasta and other traditional Italian dishes but also typical Andalusian and Mediterranean dishes with fresh fish and good quality meat. Their Tuna Tataki is spectacular and the freshly caught hake is also highly recommendable, as well as their beef of excellent quality. Are you a fan of pizzas then you will also be at the right place as Antonio’s typical Toscana style pizza dough is very thin and particularly delicious. They mainly work with local produce, for example the Riofrío caviar, with which they create a very special spaghetti sprinkled with the soul of the caviar which is the salt that cures the roe of the sturgeon.
Moreover, if you like to drink a good glass of wine with your meals then you can choose of not just one but two wine lists, an Italian and a Spansh wine list.
You don’t have to wait for the weekend for a culinary treat as during the week, from Monday to Friday, you are welcome for a ‘plato del dia’ which is a ‘dish of the day’ and includes a drink and dessert. Also keep an eye out for their special events like live music with Tijs Groen, every Thursday!
Having opened their doors only recently they can already take pride in some excellent ratings on trip advisor, so why not give them a try! You can also follow them on Facebook. (For a mouth-watering experience simply click on the images here: https://www.facebook.com/gastrobarpizzeria/photos/
