Conveniently positioned more or less in the centre of the La Herradura beach, next to the local school, you will find Supermarket Jiménez-Guillén. Now this is not your standard, typical Spanish supermarkt but definitively a supermarket with a difference. Apart from stocking your typical Spanish produce, like a good range of salami’s, jamon’s, cheeses and plenty of choice in dairy produce and fresh fruits and vegetables, there is much more to discover in this packed, but very well organized and stocked seafront super market.
Apart from getting your daily fresh bread, with an excellent choice of different types of bread, and a great choice in wines and liquers, both national and international, they are distinguishing themselves by having a large range of international products, such as Indian, English, Scandinavian, Japanese, Mexican…, a substansive selection of teas, sauces and much, much more. They even have a good selection of bio (organic) products and also a gluten free section.
Fancy trying something different?
Why not try a Dutch cheese, for example cheese with cumin seeds, or some English rice or custard pudding. Of course you can also get your fix of peanut butter and exotic sauces. And why not sniff out that delicious recipe for crab cakes with tinned crab meat. There is too much to mention and sometimes pictures speak louder than words (see images in this article)!
You are of course very welcome to come and have a look for yourself as there is a good chance that you will find that product that you are missing so much from your home country… wherever that is.
You might also like the fact that this little gem of a supermarket is not your typical chain supermarket which are so common these days and it is always nice to being able to support local small businesses.
Juan and his wife Victoria started their business in 2005. In the beginning it was just the two of them, but they have since been able to offer work to two to four employees. This is a family business run by this hard-working Spanish couple who had the good idea to tap into the foreign product market, as well as offering excellent Spanish products, this way catering for the locals, holiday makers and the many foreign inhabitants in the village and near surroundings. Their strength is that they make an effort to find products for the various different groups of foreigners who have discovered the Costa Tropical and in particular Almuñécar and La Herradura. So why not go and find out for yourself. And whether you are Spanish, Dutch, English, German, Scandinavian …. it is always nice to try something different.
