This fiesta is well celebrated in La Herradura and Almuñécar. Virgen del Carmen is the patron saint of mariners. The main event is when the statue of the Virgin del Carmen is carried from the church down to the beach accompanied by band music. She is then taken on a boat to sail around the rocks of the bay escorted by a small armada, to arrive back on land. This is then followed by a truly amazing firework display from the beach. (Please make sure that your animals are safe during these 3 days as there will be some loud bangs!!!) After the firework people go back to the feria to eat and drink and dance to live music on the Plaza.
However, this is a three day event starting on Friday the 14th with at 20.30 children activities on the Plaza de la Independencia, with at 22.00 the Fiesta de la Espuma, which means there will be a lot of foam involved. Great fun. On Saturday 15 there will be sports activities from 10.00 to 20.30 in the Pabellón of La Herradura. At 23.00 there is a free Jazz concert by “Toto Jazz Band”, part of the Jazz en la Costa Festival, in the Plaza de la Independencia.
Sunday 16 July there is a Holy Mass in honour of the Virgen Carmen at 20.30 followed by the Maritime Procesión, acompanied by the Rociero Choir “Cosas Nuestras” and the Band Music.
