One for my Baby is a project of the Belgian singer Dirk Van Halewyck and the pianist Jacinto Rodríguez (Motril) who were recently joined by the guitarist/arranger Kiko Aguado from Granada.
Dirk started playing the trumpet when he was 9 years old and at 19 he joined the Antwerp Big band and Jazz Academy from Freddy Sunder (former director of the Belgian TV and radio big band).
About 10 years ago he started singing and studied vocal techniques with some famous voice coaches like David Davidsen in Antwerp.
He lives now in Salobreña for 6 years where he met Jacinto and more recently Kiko Aguado.
After playing a couple of years mostly Jazz dinners and smaller concerts with Jacinto, often in a quartet and at many local venues, they founded the full band One for my baby.
They now play mainly in cultural centres and in summertime in the gardens of La Najarra. August 29 will be the first concert with Kiko Aguado!
The band now consists of 8 professional members, who are at the top of the Granada jazz scene:
Drums: Julio Pérez
Bass: Miguel Ángel Pimentel
Guitar: Kiko Aguado
Piano: Jacinto Rodríguez
Trumpet: Alberto Martin
Alt Sax: Rogelio Gil
Tenor Sax: Jesús Mata
Voice: Dirk Van Halewyck
The repertoire consists of original songs (mostly Funky) and interpretations of jazz/pop standards.
All the songs have original arrangements by Kiko Aguado and/or Peter Vandendriessche (Belgian Sax alto/ arranger), which gives the distinct sound of the band.
On Tuesday 29/8 One for my Baby will play at 22h in the gardens of the Palacete de la Najarra in Almunecar. Presales of tickets (€8) is available at the Tourist Office of Almunecar, at Viajes Ecuador and online on www.eventum365.com/Vega-de-Granada/Conciertos/one-for-my-baby-jazz-funk-1726
