The Competition will be held from 23 to 27 January 2018, in the Civic center of La Herradura, with the purpose of the diffusion and study of the Spanish guitar, while honoring the memory of Andrés Segovia.
“This year’s event, aimed at all concert guitarists who have not yet reached the age of 35 years on the date of the celebration, will pay homage to the Italian composer, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, in the year in which the 50 anniversary of his “Death,” is commemorated.
The registration period of the participating guitarists will be open untill the 12th of January of 2018. Those who are interested may sent the registration forms to: Oficinas Municipales de La Herradura. Avenida Prieto Moreno Centro Cívico 2ª planta. 18697 La Herradura – Almuñécar (Granada) España.
Together with the registration form, the following documentation will be needed: photocopy or PDF document of the ID card, passport, or identity and residency document in case of stateless applicants. Photocopy or PDF document of the academic diplomas obtained. “Curriculum Vitae”, two recent photographs, in PDF or JPG, one passport type and one of 9×12 cm. As well as a list of music of the participants choice to interpret during the first and second tests, in addition to the obligatory music piece.
The XXXIII International Classical Guitar Competition “Andrés Segovia” will consist of three qualifying tests open to the public. On 23 January 2018, a public drawing will be held at 13.00 at the Civic Center of La Herradura to determine the order of action of the contestants admitted to the event.
The tests to be carried out will be the following. In first round the selected contestants will perform in the auditorium of the Civic center of La Herradura The following works: a repertoire of free choice that comprehends works of various styles and does not exceed 15 minutes.
In the second round, contestants who have passed the first Test will interpret a repertoire of free choice that includes works (or movements) of Various styles and does not exceed 20 minutes, different from that interpreted in the previous test. To this a compulsory work “Capriccio Diabolico (Homage Paganini), Op.” 85a (1935) “, by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) will be added. At the end of the second round, the jury will decide and announce the contestants who pass to the Final test.
In the final, the guitarists will perform a repertoire of guitar and orchestra with the obligatory work called “Concierto para guitarra y orquesta nº 1 en re mayor [dedicado a Andrés Segovia]op. 99 (1939), de Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Winners must collect the prizes in person and participate in the closing events of the contest, which includes the participation of the first prize winner, or in case there is no first prize winner the second prize winner, in a concert with the same orchestra in the Auditorio Manuel de Falla de Granada.
Prizes The First prize is 10.000 Euros, a special concert guitar valued at 5.200 made by luthier Aaron García Ruiz (www.aaron-garcia.com) and a recital at the international Festival of music and dance “Ciudad de Úbeca in 2018.
The second Prize is 4,000 (four thousand) euros and a recital in the Castillo de La Herradura; and a third prize is 2,000 (two thousand) euros and a recital in Jaén, in the Real Economic Society of Friends of the country.
There will also be a special prize “Leo Brouwer”: 700 (seven hundred) euros, with the best interpretation of the obligatory work “Capriccio Diabolico (Homage Paganini), Op.” 85a (1935) “, by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Finally, Juventudes Musicales of Almuñécar will award a prize “as stimulus to the youngest guitarist”, which exceeds the first phase of elimination: 400 euros (four hundred); A guitar recital in Almuñécar; Travel bag and accommodation, to the youngest guitarist who exceeds the first phase of elimination. The rest of the participants in the third round will receive a “finalist Diploma”.
