It is celebrated from the 23rd to the 27th of January in the auditorium of the Civic Centre and in this edition it will pay homage to Mario Castelnovo-Tedesco in the 50 anniversary of his death.
This musical activity, of a competitive nature, is directed to interpreters whose purpose is the diffusion and the study of the classical guitar while trying to honour the memory of the great musician Andrés Segovia.
On this occasion, the Italian composer Mario Castelnovo-Tedesco will be honoured on the occasion of the 50 anniversary of his death.
This edition of the contest will consist of three eliminatory tests. The first of them will be held on January 23 and the contestants will perform in the auditorium, a free choice repertoire that includes works of various styles and that does not exceed 15 minutes; in the second test, they will play a compilation that includes works of various styles of free choice, which does not exceed 20 minutes, plus the obligatory work “Diabolic Capriccio” by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco; and in the final, the guitarists will perform a repertoire of guitar and orchestra with the obligatory work “Concerto for guitar and orchestra number 1 in Re Mayor (dedicated to maestro Andrés Segovia) by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with the participation of the University Orchestra of Granada, directed by Gabriel Delgado.
The contest has the best prizes that can be offered in an event of this kind in Spain, with a first prize of 10,000 euros and a special model guitar; a second prize of 4000 euros and a recital at the Castillo de La Herradura and a concert guitar and a third prize of 2000 euros and a recital at the Real Sociedad Economica de Amigos del País (Jaén).
At the initiative of the UGR, the winner of the contest is presented at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada.
